Meet board member Lauren Houldsworth!

Lauren Houldsworth started her career at Eli Lilly & Company in July, 2024. A recent graduate from Butler University, Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Strategic Communication and Healthcare Management.

During Lauren’s time at Butler, she was President of the Project 44 club for three years. During that time, she helped increase the club’s presence on campus and helped add over 760 people to the NMDP registry. As a result of the club's efforts, at least two people have been a match for a stranger in need.

Lauren’s personal connection to Project 44’s cause stems from her family ties to NMDP. Her grandfather, Dr. Robert Graves, created the bone marrow registry after the loss of his daughter, Laura Graves. Lauren was named after her aunt Laura, who was the first person in the world to receive a successful bone marrow transplant from an unrelated donor. Today, 41 million people are on the registry and over 133,000 lives have been touched by an unrelated donor. When Lauren toured Butler in 2019 and came across a flyer for Project 44 detailing Andrew Smith's courageous fight against cancer, she felt inspired to get involved. She is now excited to continue serving others as a member of the Project 44 board, honoring the legacies of her aunt, grandfather, and Andrew Smith.

Luckily for Andrew, his odds of finding a match based on his ethnic background were strong. However, Andrew recognized that this wasn’t the case for most patients waiting for a match.

@nmdp_org had the highest number of African American donor registrants yet, with 15,000 people between the ages of 18-24 joining. However, there is still a long way to go! Only 13% of registry members identify as Hispanic or Latino. That's not enough to meet the needs of Hispanic patients looking for a match.

Project 44 is committed to carrying out Andrew’s legacy by continuing to raise awareness about the limitations in the registry’s ethnically diverse membership.

Meet our outstanding board member, Graham Honaker!

Graham Honaker serves as Associate Athletic Director for Development and NIL Strategy at Butler University, where he is in his 12th year. He has worked on various campaigns at Butler, including the Campaign for Hinkle Fieldhouse and the Butler Beyond Campaign, the largest campaign in University history. He is an active member of Toastmasters International, the Robert Greenleaf Center for Servant Leadership, and the Indianapolis Kiwanis Club. He has an undergraduate degree from Wake Forest University and a master’s degree from Indiana University.

He’s previously co-authored three books: The Cinderella Strategy: The Game Plan Behind Butler University’s Rise to Prominence, Unbracketed: Big Time College Basketball Done the Right Way, and A Blessing, Not a Burden: My Parents’ Remarkable Holocaust Story and My Fight to Keep Their Legacy Alive.
